Biodynamic farming is the golden rule for her Cecile Tremblay’s hectares of grapevines, located in the Côte de Nuits (she's certified Écocert since 2005). As she sees it, the vineyard is alive and must be respected. Like a true alchemist, the woman some people now call the "new Lalou Bize-Leroy" works tirelessly on her wines, helping the terroir to shine through.

DOMAINE CÉCILE TREMBLAY

Vosne-Romanée

Cécile Tremblay is without a doubt one of the most talented wine growers in Burgundy.

Cecile TREMBLAY descends from a long line of vignerons. The story begins in 1921, with the union of Cécile’s great-grandparents, Edouard Jayer, a cooper in Nuits-Saint-Georges, and Esther Fournier who inherited vineyards from her family. Together they established and developed their own Domaine. The domaine’s vineyards were then eventually passed down to their five children. Renée, the youngest daughter, kept her share of the vineyards under métayage. Later on, Renée’s only daughter, Marie-Annick, grew the family holdings with her husband while keeping all vineyards under métayage. Cécile Tremblay, who had studied enology and viticulture in Dijon, reclaimed the family heritage and took over the management of the vineyards in 2002. A year later, Cécile bottled her first wines, Domaine Cécile Tremblay was born!

She soon caught the interest of the wine world. Only a couple of years later, her wines could be found in the cellars of farsighted-burgundy-connoisseurs and on the wine lists of the best restaurants in France. For close to 10 years Cécile vinified in a tiny “garage” in Vosne-Romanée, in 2013 she finally moved to a brand new winery next to her house, in Morey-Saint-Denis. The winery of Cecile Tremblay is now conveniently located next to the restaurant Castel de Très Girard in Morey Saint Denis.

Domaine Cecile Tremblay range of appellations is small, but its holdings are in the best locations. Two wines are bottled from Vosne-Romanée, including an outstanding village cuvée. The primary source for this wine are 45-50-year-old vines in the lieu-dit Les Jacquines, and fruits from a tiny 0.23-hectare parcel of 40-year-old vines in the premier cru Les Rouges du Dessus. A more perfumed and powerfully structured wine is made from 75 years old vines in the large premier cru Les Beaumonts. In Chambolle-Musigny, Cécile owns half hectare of 50 years old vines in the premier cru Les Feusselottes and some village level plots which compose the Chambolle Musigny Aux Echanges Cuvee. This Cuvee of Cecile Tremblay is vinified naturally (without Sulfur) and only bottled in Magnums. Another 0.40-hectare parcel of 50-year-old vines in the Grand Cru Chapelle Chambertin produces one of her greatest wines, rivaled only by Cecile Tremblay Echézeaux du Dessus, which is routinely one of the very best wines from that vineyard. Her 40-year-old vines are ideally located in the lieu-dit Echézeaux du Dessus bordering Grands Echézeaux.
