The Premier Cru that has long been considered the equal of any Gevrey Grand Cru.

Clos Saint-Jacques is one of those Burgundian climats whose Premier Cru classification reads as a historical accident. The 6.7-hectare site, on a perfectly south-east-facing slope above Gevrey-Chambertin village, is shared by only five owners, and the wines that emerge from its limestone-clay soils have been compared to Grand Cru Chambertin throughout living memory. Domaine Armand Rousseau is the largest holder, with approximately 2.2 hectares, and the Rousseau Clos Saint-Jacques sits at the very top of any "almost Grand Cru" conversation in Burgundy.

The 2019 vintage produced wines of extraordinary balance — concentrated and ripe but with the kind of natural acidity that promises long ageing. For Gevrey, 2019 is being talked about as a future-classic vintage, and Rousseau's Clos Saint-Jacques is the kind of bottle that justifies that conversation. Expect dark cherry and rose, the savoury earth note that defines great Gevrey, and a structured frame built for two-plus decades of evolution.

Rousseau farms with the traditional rigour that has defined the house for over a century: low yields, partial whole-cluster fermentation, native yeast, ageing in seasoned and new French oak. The result is a Clos Saint-Jacques of exceptional purity and class.

A bottle for the cellar. Drink between 2030 and 2050.
