De Montille Hokkaido | Zweigelt "Tan" (Recherche) 2022
Burgundy Legend Meets Hokkaido Terroir. This is a historic collaboration. Domaine de Montille, one of Burgundy's most revered estates (featured in Mondovino and The Drops of God), has planted its flag in Japan.
Under the vision of Etienne de Montille, this project seeks to uncover the potential of Hokkaido as a world-class wine region.
The "Kanji" Series - The Final Chapter Before establishing their own estate in Hakodate, the team produced a limited series of wines sourced from trusted growers in Yoichi. Each vintage bears a Kanji character reflecting their journey:
-
2020: 學 (Etude / Study)
-
2021: 理 (Comprendre / Understanding)
-
2022: 探 (Recherche / The Quest)
This bottle, "Tan" (The Quest), represents the culmination of their research into Japanese soil.
The Wine: A Burgundian Take on Zweigelt Zweigelt is typically bold and spicy, but in the hands of a Burgundy master, it becomes elegant, floral, and refined.
-
The Look: Deep ruby with purple hues.
-
The Nose: An aromatic explosion of violets, ripe black cherries, and raspberries, layered with hints of pink pepper and nutmeg.
-
The Palate: Silky and medium-bodied. It balances the ripe fruit of the warm 2022 vintage with a crisp, cool-climate acidity. The finish is long, savory, and full of "Umami."
