Domaine Takahiko Nana-Tsu-Mori Pinot Noir 2024

Domaine Takahiko is the Yoichi estate of Takahiko Soga, second son of the family behind Obuse Winery in Nagano. After studying fermentation science at Tokyo University of Agriculture he worked at Coco Farm & Winery from 1998, moved to Yoichi in 2002 as its vineyard manager, and founded his own domaine in the Nobori district in 2010. Grapes are fermented as whole clusters with wild yeast in a small cellar.

Nana-Tsu-Mori Pinot Noir is the domaine's flagship from its own organically farmed Nana-Tsu-Mori vineyard in Nobori, now about 6.7 hectares of Pinot Noir. It is fermented 100% whole cluster with wild yeast in resin tanks with a long maceration on the skins, then aged about 12 months in barrels that are mostly old.

2024 had the second-highest heat accumulation on record after 2023, with good weather after flowering and little rain from veraison to harvest. Maceration lasted about 45 days, and the wine spent 12 months in barrel (83% old, 17% new). No sulphites are used until bottling, when a small dose is added. 12,500 bottles were made. The domaine suggests opening from April 2027, ideally after four years or more.
