Domaine Takahiko Yoichi-Nobori ‘N’ Passetoutgrain 2023.

2023 was an extreme vintage in Hokkaido — severe bird damage devastated the region’s vineyards, and Domaine Takahiko was among the very few growers to bring fruit into the cellar at all. Unable to bottle a straight Nana-Tsu-Mori Pinot Noir, Takahiko Soga instead crafted this special Yoichi-Nobori ‘N’ — the ‘N’ standing for the Nana-Tsu-Mori vineyard, the single 4.6-hectare hillside site above the Yoichi River that is the source of all Domaine Takahiko wines.

The blend is predominantly Pinot Noir (~97%) from Nana-Tsu-Mori, with a small portion (~3%) of other varieties added in the cellar to bring balance. Thanks to the impact of millerandage on the vines, the fruit carried beautiful acidity and lifted aromatics. The result is a rare, characterful expression of Takahiko’s vineyard in a once-in-a-generation growing season — in effect, the 2023 Nana-Tsu-Mori in Passetoutgrain form.
