de Montille & Hokkaido is the Japanese project of Etienne de Montille of the Burgundy house Domaine de Montille, launched in 2016 in Kikyo-cho, Hakodate. While the estate vines matured, the team made a series of wines from Yoichi growers' grapes at 10R Winery, each vintage named with a single kanji: 2018 豪, 2019 驚, 2020 學 and 2021 理 (Comprendre).

Ri 2021 is Pinot Noir from the Kimura vineyard in Yoichi (vines about 15 years old): 35% destemmed, fermented with native yeast and aged 16 months in two- to four-year-old barrels.
