Domaine Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier, at the Château de Chambolle-Musigny, is the benchmark for the village's most delicate, perfumed style of Burgundy. Frédéric Mugnier left a career as an engineer and pilot to take over the family vines in 1985, and has since made some of the Côte de Nuits' most quietly profound wines — no new-oak showmanship, long, gentle élevage, and a signature of silk and lift that is unmistakable in the glass.

Musigny is the domaine's crown jewel: just over a hectare in the heart of the Grand Cru, a holding that has been in the family for over a century. It is the wine by which Mugnier is judged, and one of the most sought-after bottles in all of Burgundy. From the cool, classically proportioned 2007 vintage, this Musigny shows the estate at its most ethereal — rose petal, red cherry and spice over a fine-grained, weightless structure. Now approaching twenty years, it is in a beautiful mature window.
