Domaine Georges Mugneret-Gibourg, in Vosne-Romanée, is one of Burgundy's most quietly revered family estates. Founded by Dr. Georges Mugneret and carried on by his wife Jacqueline and daughters Marie-Christine and Marie-Andrée, with the next generation now alongside them, the domaine is prized for wines of purity and restraint — classically raised, never showy, and built to age. Allocations are small and rarely seen on the open market.

Clos Vougeot is the estate's Grand Cru from the top of the slope, in the northwest corner of the clos near the Château du Clos de Vougeot — the most favoured part of this famous walled vineyard. Considered the longest-aging of the domaine's three Grands Crus, it balances the power of Ruchottes-Chambertin with the finesse of Echézeaux: roses, plums and spicy red berries over forest-floor depth, with a deep, silky structure. From the legendary 2005 vintage, one of the greatest of the modern era, this bottle is now at twenty years and drinking with mature, harmonious perfume.
